But who are these people and why should you care?

One way to get traffic is to ride a new trend (of which all of the above save one are examples of). The result of trend riding and making psots about say, Steve Harvey getting married or Bob Dyln picking his nose (fake example) is good only for short term boosts to traffic.

Due to the large volume of content a hot topic produces there will be almost no long tail to a topic rider.

So be sure to stay within your niche. But do ride those
